March 2010 Update

As the year rolls slowly onwards work here at Ham and Jam HQ rumbles on through the ever lengthening nights. With the help of Deceiver we have now finished all the weapon model skins for v1.0. The two Bren variants (Mk1 pre 1941 and Mk2 post 1941) are code wise identical, however with the visual changes you find yourself having to adjust ever so slightly. Both have the awkward magazine position which really affects your view when deployed which can often result in some paranoid defending.

Guns ‘n Germans

Production has started to ramp back up here after the lull over Christmas. No sooner than we brought both Rick_D and Jenn0_Bing on we were struck with the dreaded curse of abandonment. Luckily it wasn’t their fault and before Rick got picked up by Crytek he managed to unwrap the MP40 properly. Jenn0 also managed to squeeze in work between his exams and so has finished the MG34 and the Shovel and has set his sights on reworking the Bren Mk2. We’ve also got extra help from Deceiver in skinning the freshly unwrapped weapons and he cranked out the Enfield No4 and MP40 over the last two weekends.

Thanks to all you guys voting for us we have made it into the Top 100 Unreleased Mods 2009 over at ModDB.

Mod of the Year Awards

Development has been pretty slow over Christmas as you’d expect but the pace is picking up again now so expect a larger update next month. What we do have this month though is some images of the “nearly final” MG34 texture. I say “nearly final” as we’ve got a few problems to solve with it in terms of ingame performance. The holes in the barrel shroud are supposed to be see through (as in the render) but ingame this looks a bit dodgy and creates some visual oddities when you see through them, into something else transparent. The problem arises as we can’t decide which is less of a performance hit, a alpha texture requiring extra work on the renderer or to have the holes modelled and add the extra work there. Either way it’s 99% done and looks like this:

We’ve also been given the near complete “theme” for Ham and Jam, produced by Brian Gair. This is the music you will hear in the menu screens and for general media releases from now on.

Have a listen!

Last but not least another video by one of our testers “Porc-Epic”, this time showing off some gameplay from HaJ Pegasus.

More next month!

Merry Christmas from all of us!

For those of you celebrating it, Merry Christmas from the Ham and Jam team.
