id Software games available on Steam now!
The addition of id’s games will bolster Valve’s digital distribution service considerably, as Half-Life developer Valve continues to develop the popular platform.

id said that all of its games on Steam will work with modern operating systems. The games launch today on the platform.

id also announced that it is co-developing a brand new Wolfenstein title with Raven Software.

Multiplayer for the game is being developed by Threewave.

id provided no further details, but id CEO Todd Hollenshead said he just wanted to let everyone know that the franchise “is still in the backs of our minds.”

In other Wolfenstein news, Hollenshead announced that Castle Wolfenstein will be made into a “major Hollywood motion picture.” He promised the film would meet the quality standards of the popular FPS.

It is a bloody great deal I must say but i'm not gonna buy it. Never have bought anything off steam, my dad just does not like it too much. Fears about credit card getting hacked etc.

Steam is pretty genius, but I don't have a credit card so I rely heavily on retail. Bying through paypal requires you to validate at least one creditcard so you might as well buy with creditcard (since you don't have to register a paypal account if you don't have one).

For people like me who only have a debit card, being able to use paypal is a life saver.

Debit cards work on Steam....

Unless you have some rubbish Solo/Maestro one which in that case its 50/50. My old Solo card used to work (like when I was 16) but for others it didn't. Becoming 18 and getting a Visa Debit card sorted that out.

Halifax auto upgraded mine when I was 16/17/18 and sent me new ones without me asking as my account changed due to my age increasing.

There was a few problems with id and Steam the weekend it came out, there was a big fuss over id apparently scamming Dos Box (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/news.php?show_news=1), as it's being used for their DOS titles to work correctly under windows, but they didn't include the DosBox license agreement, and thus people thought it was stolen - but that was worked out. There was also a problem with Doom 3 CD keys not working too, but that got fixed pretty quickly.

It's pretty cool that so many big publishers are taking Steam seriously now and getting big titles out there. Good way for us gamers to save money too over the boxed versions, plus there are always specials here and there too that let us save a few more bucks, I love it :D

Unlike Half-Life and it's expansions, the Id titles that used Redbook audio do NOT include their musical tracks on Steam.

Kind of disappointed by that one :(

I saw them live last Wednesday actually, they where awesome. Smashed every guitar they played. Got headbutted a few times though because the people beside me didn't think I was hyped enough which still stings but It did get me hyped which is the important part.
