Well I have just released beta 2 of this map, click on the link below to go and download the map.

http://www.fpsbanana.com/maps/26479

This map supports up to 16 players, 8 on each side. I made this map in a day or two. Its an FY map, fy stands for fight yard. Please provide feedback/improvements when you do download and play the map. Remember to have fun playing the map, the screenshots are below.

I don't suppose it matters if it is fun map, but how hard is it to get the textures lined up correctly?
You know I can find no way of criticizing you as I have been intending to start mapping for a long time... so Kudos to you for cutting to the chase.
BTW, how old are you? (This is so I know how mortified to be)
I'm 16.

I'm 15 btw, yeh I'll fix the textures for the next beta. The map was a quick job btw so don't expect it to be amazing to be honest, Its a fun map at heart. For Beta 2 I will fix the textures, change some stuff around, improve the lighting etc. So have you downloaded the map ?

I just hope that when people do download it, that it works.

The picture isn't very steady for I had the camera in my left hand.
My knife is an Opinel No.8, they make the best knives in France, second only to laguiole...
I'll get your map and give it a bash as soon as I have some spare bandwidth.:)

I just wanted to show you that it wouldn't have taken alot of work to make that map look nice, that was done in under an hour and all I really did was change the textures and wack in a few props. So do that little extra bit of work next time and don't upload an ugly map. The map itself was very fun to play on though but I didn't like those 4 diangle blocks, they where messy to run around.

Wow that does look pretty good. I'm not the best at Hammer so I didn't expect it to be the best looking. I gave it to one of my friends who is an admin on one of the Guru3D servers, they uploaded it to one of their servers.

Once I get some more experience with Hammer then I could do what you did with my map. For Beta 2, i'm not gonna rush it out, gonna work on textures, lighting, I might add some fog as well.

Guess you can take some critisism.

There is so many of these maps around on different forums,
and I for the life of me can't understand why someone would post images
of something as poor as this.

They (and you) must know that you most likely will be slaughtered by everyone
looking at it.
Look around, check out what people make, not just the mod or professional
mappers but beginners aswell, its way more than 3 textures and a few squares.
See what Sam did with just a bit of effort.
Imo only post if you have something that is possible to give feedback on.

I wish you great success though! :)

(p.s. this is my personal opinion)

Its ok, i'm still learning Hammer, Beta 2 already looks better than Beta 1 (which isn't hard). I need people to critisise (sp?) my work as its the only way I will get better.

I'm not gonna get better unless people tell me what they think of my map, if you think my map looks crap then tell me its crap, if you think it looks good then tell me it looks good.

Now back to work on beta 2. :P

Thats just it though, there is nothing to give feedback on realy.

Anyways, keep on mapping and things will soon be sweet. :)

Sorry for the bump but I didn't want to make a new topic for Beta 2, could a mod rename the thread title to fy_source_funmap_beta2.

I'm automatically biased against fun, aim and just about any map of this general type. Not only because they are spam maps, pieces of poorly made trash that clutter up communities with work of little value; but also because its been my experience that while everyone may rave over a quality planned and built map, that not only looks great but plays well and took x amount of months to build, the shitty aim map someone built in a couple of hours, that all their friends say is awesome, will still get more play-time on more servers.

Now that my bitter rant is over, as an entry point into mapping, something of that calibre is fine as a starting point, and can be a great way to learn all the basic tools and techniques you'll need. Just remember what some of the guys here have said, spend more time refining your work, making sure there are as few things as possible wrong with it before releasing, even though its at a point thats technically playable.

And I really applaud you for seeking out criticism. So many new mappers will straight up refuse it, even becoming abusive when its offered, like they have the midas touch and every piece of crap they pump out is made of gold. Ask any of the guys here, we all started at the level your currently on, and its through community critique and criticism that we've been able to refine our techniques and skills and reach the level we're at.

Oh, and while fy maps are fine at this initial level, you should always be striving for a better map with each release, which in your case will consist of a real layout, rather than a box with stuff in it. Keep working at it and you'll get there!

Thanks for the feedback man. I am gonna be working on a map called de_Ge sooon, its gonna be redisigned as the last version got deleted because I had to reinstall Steam so I lost alot of work. I will be working on it soon, for the moment I'm working on another map which I will show when I feel its polished and ready.
