Installed the latest Windows Update, rebooted and...nothing.
After much hairpulling and recording of the BSOD that appeared for 1ms its quite clear that my C:\ is now totally useless and formatting is the only option. Both methods of XP repairing do not work as it does not even recognise the drive as being FAT or NTSF.....
So out comes the shiny new 250Gb HDD that I rushed down PC world to buy and take both old HDD's out and this one in aaaand....nothing.
At this point you'll be going "duh" you need to install stuff....well when I mean nothing...I mean nothing happens. Period.
As it seems to have turned out it also took the first stick of RAM with it as one of the chips has this bizarre gunky coating on it now and a weird smell...
:icon_evil::icon_evil::icon_evil:
So formatting/installing XP on new drive and using my iMac.
Mac > Windows.

Did you install IE7?
And I guess that PM is out the window then.

Luckily all my music, games, uni work, HaJ stuff is kept on my other drive which is working fine.
So I will get around to it, once every other bit of my PC is back to working right.

Such a relief...The game mod leader can get a catastrophic hdd crash without losing all the HaJ stuff. Kudos.
I hear there are plenty of things to do with a failed hdd though, and you have the (mis)fortune to have one to experiment with.

well, the game is pretty much on least 4 different hdds, so i don't think such an *cough* excuse, would work.

LOL. Yeah the souce code is in about 5 difference geographic locations.
As for the art assets, the one I have I copy onto my external drive periodically so I have at least two copies at any one time.

Works again \o/
To pass the time our house bhad what could be described as a war. Anything that could be thrown and not broken such as tennis, squash and footballs, saucepans, helmets, and spare .50 dummy shells were thrown.
Myself and Louise made an epic stand on the first floor landing behind two office chairs and bits of wood. Then Uisdean smacked one off the alarm and set it off...

"Hey! you muzt ztop all zis nonsense!"
"We're just having a friendly little argument!"

Bizzare!
That stick of RAM actually seemed to work...well up until today. Now with the older sticks of RAM the PC doesnt get past the memory check in BIOS. Obviously cant just use one of them as few mobos boot with 3 sticks of RAM.
So back to 1GB.
Also BF2 freezes my PC up on connection to internet servers, LAN and SP games are fine. So me thinks firewall....except that I don't have any turned on. ZA turned on/off/game mode makes no difference and every combo with Windows Firewall results in the same. Usually freezes within 0.1s - 5 mins of playing.
Not overheating as:
a) it doesnt do it in LAN games where its 32 v 2 with 16 bots on screen shooting me and a handful of vehicles
b) its not hot.

I'm pretty sure you can get a 1GB of ram or 2x512mb ram for quite cheap.
