Do mods for HL2 (read HaJ), work with HL2 E1?
As stated in another post, I got HL2 E1, and am wondering whether a mod merely requires the presence of the source engine to work, or.. and so on.

I believe if you download the Source Base SDK and have E1 installed it should work.

Thank you.
I have E1 installed.
Dilemma no. 2:
I just downloaded (before I saw your post) Source SDK... what's the difference between Source SDK, and Source SDK Base?

SourceSDK Base is required for all mods, its just the base content. The SourceSDK is the tools to make mods/maps.

Not shure if you need hl2DM but it would do no harm to get it, you can allways play
with it... :D

I have:
The original game HL2 E1, and downloaded much of the following via steam.
HL2 Lost Coast,
HL2 Deathmatch,
HL Deathmatch Source,
Steam,
Source SDK,
Source SDK Base.

As of the next release of HaJ, you'll need Source SDK Base to run it.

I'm not sure what package you need to have access to that but I would guess that at *minimum* HL2DM (which is what, $9.99 now?) . That should give your access to enough steam content to run HaJ if you don't already own any other Source based game.

That last reference to the Source SDK Base muddles me seriously, because whenever I run the SDK Base on my computer, it runs the Lost coast video stress test! And I think that has nothing to do with Source SDK Base.
These questions make me sound horribly noobish don't they?
I have thought of one easy way out of this: it's a bug and steam is launching the Lost Coast test when it means to do something else.

SDK Base contains basically a sub-set of Lost Coast and the latest version of the Source engine. It's purpose is to act as an engine base for third party mods. The Lost Coast content thats in it is just a combination of left over stuff and stuff for Mods to use for testing. It's not meant to be something you can/should run and expect to work on its own.

I was expecting it to do something like the Source SDK. :)
Thanks for the info.

I have since found the answer to my question. No, you cannot run HL2 mods with just HL2 EP1, you need HL2.
(Despite the fact you the source engine and all textures/models/media in their entirety.)
I had installed EP1 with the Source SDK and the SDK base.
Maybe I got the combination wrong. Or something else.
I hope you didn't buy HL2 because you thought you had toNo, because I actually wanted to play it. So it doesn't really matter now.
The problem is, however, my PSU has blown and I'm waiting for a new one. :( EDIT: fixed.

I hope you didn't buy HL2 because you thought you had to, afaik if you have EP1 you can install Source SDK Base and mods will work with those two installed. Can anyone confirm?

Valve released the Source Base to make it easier for third party mods to get the lastest technogoly to be used in their mod. These can include, motion blur, HDR, directX 10 support, dual core and quad core support etc etc.
