Get a note from the post office saying theres a parcel waiting for me that I have to collect. Odd, seeing as I wasn't expecting anything.
So I go and collect it, unwrap it and it contains this...

It was from an old friend who I'd lost contact with about a year ago and he'd just sent it without even telling me he was going to.
What is it? It's the front navigation light from a G.A.L Hotspur II glider (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Aircraft_Hotspur). :D

Well what was cool is the fact I've been researching into that kind of aircraft and the units that use it for over 10 years now. There are, as far as Im aware, only two examples of the glider still in existence worldwide. One is complete but a rebuild based on an existing tailsection and the other is just a cockpit section.

I'm doing a Colditdz. I'm carefully assembling a glider by myself with the intent of escaping the country when the guards aren't looking.
Still at least this isn't THAT big. Not like the Harrier outrigger tyre I brough through customs! :|

At least you got good reference for when/if you ever come to model a Hotspur Glider's navigation light :p

LOL. The ammount of references I've got I could re-build an entire one from scratch.
If I had the time and money I was actually toying with makeing a 1:12th or 1:6th scale RC version.

Ship might be more appropriate.
BTW, I though I saw you asleep on the metro today until I realised it was geographically impossible.

There is no record of the Hotspur being used in combat as the larger glider types overtook them in functionality.LOL no wonder I had never heard of it!
