I posted this a while ago on the CoJ forums while we were testing a linear map (forget which one now, there wer so many), but I think it'd fit well with this mod's open battlefield maps. My idea was basically that if a player could sneak deep into the opposing team's area, and gain access to something like a radio, they could call in a paradrop, and new players could spawn up ahead surrounding players camped in the middle of the map.

The trigger could have a cooldown, and could be activated many different ways. You could destroy an AA gun with explosives, creating an optional target that doesn't neccessarily lead to winning the round. Or launching of a flare/smoke grenade could identify a safe drop zone.

As for the players actually dropping from the sky, it'd be a really cool effect, but not required.

This sounds promising, IMO.

Promising, but quite complicated I guess

such gameplay has gone under consideration...

Promising, but quite complicated I guessTBH not really, if you ignore the whole paradrop sequence and just spawn people up ahead. Think of the advanced spawns in the final 1.3 release of falaise, and combine that concept with advanced spawns on maps like stadtkampf which are reliant on flag control. If you'd like I could strip it into an existing map on 1.3 as a proof of concept.

its not entirely the same but firearms for hl1 has inplimented "paradrops" and people considered it one of the stupidest features in the game. people have nicknamed parachutes as "noob killers" because some idiot ALLWAYS gets a parachute, jumps out of the aircraft and finds that he doesnt know how to deploy it and splats on the ground, that or he deploys his chute and acedently releases it sending him to splat on the ground.

I don't know about paradrops, but a fighter plane animation dropping a bomb somewhere would be interesting - very limited of course. Or an artillery piece from somewhere off the distance from the map. I think it would have to to be randomized though so it doesn't always hit in the same place, so it isn't linear. The team knows what they're doing though, so if it's possible it's possible.

You could do it GRAW style (1st level, but shorter), that would be awesome.
