As some of you may know, I've been getting back into rock climbing now I'm at Uni and have access to indoor walls and lots of places to climb outdoors within an hours drive (Scotland, Lake District etc). On Thursday is was a nice day (Sunny and 28c) so myself, Ant and Liam went off down to Castle Rock to do some climbing.

First stop was Tesco for essential supplies, aka cheap food. Myself and Liam:

Castle Rock as seen from our parking spot, the side of the nearest road.

Liam being the climbing club president (and the best climber out of the three of us) lead each route to get a top rope up, here he is going up "Slab" a nice easy 25m Severe (4a):

And myself belaying him:

Next up was "Via Media", a 38m S+, which Liam took a while to lead climb:

Myself seconding the last climb we did, Direct Route a VS:

Ant hauls himself up to the top, not bad for a guy who is scared of heights!

A cracking day out, a good way of getting back into the flow of doing outdoor routes having not done any for a few years and been down the indoor walls twice a week since September.

You all should be pale nerds, sitting inside a dark room 24/7, and drink coke! :o

All this, confusion, shatters my world view!

*shudder*

No Helmets

Yeah, was one of the interesting things about the day. We got there first and later some older guys turned up, got kitted out with all there gear and helmets. More people turned up and got there helmets on.

Meanwhile we were going up higher and faster than them in baseball caps.

only idiot climbers climb without ropes. there was a famious guy in the 80s that climbed the hardest climbs in the world without a partner and a rope. obviously he isnt alive anymore. none of the no ropers last too long.

but ya you were jokin so ill try not to take you too seriously :P.

buildings arent nessisarily as hard as rocks. they gennerally are more endourance based than anything else....if you can last a long time and you can do most other climbs than a building shouldnt be too tough for you. besides if you get tired you can climb in a window :P.

I climbed out of a window once to hide from my girlfriend . . . well I say climb, I actually just fell out the open window onto the roof cutting my arms and feet . . . . but that still makes me a cool climber type person right? . . . .I'll get my coat :(

We went again last night, left Carlisle at 5pm, got there around 5:30 and climbed till around 11pm getting back (after pub detour) around 00:30.

Nothing like leading a multi pitch 50m route and getting to the top and having this view whilst belaying.
