I'm just curious, don't answer this if you don't want to/think it would be in bad taste. Anyway my question: There are a few jabs at DoD:S around the site/forums if you look for them, does H&J in some ways stem from your dissapointment with DoD:S?

..... most useless question in the world.... thanks for wasting a minute of my life D:

The simple answer is no.

Think of it as Apple taking jabs as Microsoft. We're the little guys.

Well a lot of us originally come from DoD and the DoD community. Heck, some of us even have our stuff IN DoD :D

We're not anti-DoD:S or DoD but we have our opinions on some things in it which we're not keen on.

Thats as far as any dislike goes.

I personally find DOD:S to be too unrealistic and fast-paced, but I'm not on the team and don't speak on their behalf.

DoD:S and H&J are two different games... if they made a game with American infantry against German infantry in maps called dod_kalt2 and dod_caen3, then that question may be realevant.

Even US Infantry/Airborne mods and games are different, that's the whole point... selection :)

DOD progressed away from a certain type of gameplay... I started playing it at WAAAAAY back (1.3c or something) and can honestly say it did not become what it promised to become.

Like Jed said, nothing against it but there is more room within the HL mod community for different types of gameplay then just the way DOD "plays".

Hehe I also wanted to ask this question but thought better of it.

I think it speaks volumes how even former DoD devs criticize some of DoD:Source's core design elements, such as the cones. When I look at the scoreboard and see one or two riflemen in my 16 member team (me being one of them), I can't help but wonder if the devs themselves realize they made a huge mistake.

In trying to eliminate the one-man-army karstars, they completely destroyed what made DoD, DoD. The game now feels like CS-lite with WW2 skins.

I'm really hoping HaJ will bring back that wonderful WW2 atmosphere which I have only ever found in the DoD betas.

I disagree with a lot of what you people are saying, dod:s is pretty solid imo.

Not to mention that gameplay-wise, HaJ is absolutely nothing like DoD v1.3 or DoD:S...

Well, personally I liked the gameplay with early DOD versions. I think there are elements there, that the guys are trying to implement in HaJ as well?

Then again, DOD:S looks so sweeeet. Haven't played it, so I wouldn't know about the gameplay. Though, I've heard it's pretty horrible.

Then again, HaJs prolly going to be a totally different game, so comparing it to DOD or DOD:S is pretty useless. (except for the gameplay elements from waay back?)

dods can be described briefly.

the machinegunner class is a joke. they arent realistic. unsupported fire ive seen bullets come out of the gun at 70 degree angles. are you kidding me! the mg42 overheats after like 40 rounds(the real thing was around 250 rounds) and the browning .30 is kind of like a sniper gun. though the swiveling bypods look nice...

there is one smg class, assult. it gets smoke, nades, a pistol, and a smg with a melee attack(the only gun in the game with one). basically its terminator. to "ballence" this the assult class has no acuracy. a thompson has trouble hitting someone at 30ft. its flipping rediculas. the class generally suceeds by doing classic deathmatch strategies like "run around like a chicken with its head cut off while throwing nades everywhere and shooting wildly". also with the smgs i have seen 45 degree bullet angles, what the hell?

the "support" class is the best in my opinion. both sides get an "assault rifle"(bar for allies but that gun in real life is a monster) wich has a single shot fire mode that gives pretty much no acuracy increese. the weapons have high recoil but once you learn how to use them they are easy to controll and they kill in 2 shots to boot.

k98, nerfed. its possible to use it without sights but any "fine" shot beyond 70ft you'd better use the sights.

garand, the most worthless piece of shit in the game. it CANNOT kill in one hit unless to the head, its rof is slow, it has high recoil and btw, the bar is just slightly more acurate than it. its just a piece of shit and they ruined one of the best service rifles in the ENTIRE war.

also other than the rifle and mg classes all the weapons on both teams are identical in stats, cept the mag cap on the stg. they look different but they are realy the same.

dod, piece of crap. dont buy. wait for ham and jam.

long long post

Wow, anyway, stop it.

Dod:s is a solid title, people just don't want to give up the old style of play. If dod 1.3 never existed everyone would be praising dod:s. take it for what its worth, and don't bash game over here.
