Runs surprisingly well, max settings with 2x AA and I get around 30-70fps

What do you need to run it? Does it go through bootcamp/windows? How things work? I'm confused!

An Intel powered Mac, BootCamp from the Apple site and a legit XP CD with SP2 on it.

PC programs run very very fast.. but like ginalord (hehe) said... macOSx with mac prog's ... its friggin ridiculously fast.. click the icon , program is open..

only prog ive noticed run a little doggish is psCS2... but that has a lot of sys requirements to being with.

even on my dual processor PC with a gig ram its runs slow...

I've always liked Macs, but I doubt I'd ever buy one, don't make enough, lol. Looks pretty damn sexy tho, I love the Mac OS, so much more convienient and straightforward than Windows

I hear Macs have mice with *two* buttons now!

:P Seriously though, I've been wanting to get a Apple Notebook. Don't know why, really. I just do.

I know ppl play WOW on pc laptops and mac laptops.

Hence, would Haj run on macbook, or does the vcard simply lack punch?

Ginger Lord
1st June 2006, 11:40 AM
iMac's and MacBook Pro's have the same GFX card, a Radeon X1600.

War Pig
1st June 2006, 04:32 PM
er...what does that mean? Is it able to run 3d stuff? I have no idea what comps can do these days.. :o

Ginger Lord

It's pretty good, defaults HL2 to high settings and at them it gets 30-100fps depending on area, average around 40-60.

Modelling its alright, the old version of Cinema4D is sloooow but thats because it wasnt optimised for Intel Mac's. Their new version is blazingly fast managing to keep up with my PC (3500+/1Gb/6600GT) and even beat it.

Need Adobe to release CS3 so its that fast too!

Soo, in other words, running Haj and HL2 with Macbook should be okay?

--> one would be able to play HaJ and HL2 with macbook? :o

Ginger Lord
1st June 2006, 04:59 PM
Old or new MacBook?

MacBook or MacBook Pro?

MacBook Pro's have the X1600 and run Source no problem, MacBooks only have integrated graphics, like Mac Mini's.

http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Testing_Valve_Games_on_Intel_Macs

I'd imagine it would run on the low/medium settings alright.

War Pig
1st June 2006, 07:04 PM
Macbook (not the pro model).

Low/medium would be a ok. Just wondering...

Been trying to find a used pb or ibook with 12" screen. But then again, getting an airport and a new battery would make it almost as expensive as getting a brand new macbook.

Anyhoot. If you know someone who has actually tested running HL2 on macbook, lemme know how it turned out.

And macbook would be able to run haj. :D

*wanders off to calculate budget*

I need to get a new comp, rather soonish..

:?:

Any ideas?

Well...Since no one seems to know, I'll just have to figure it out myself.

Ordered the new macbook. I wonder how it goes then.. :)

Hurrah, teh macbook is finally here. Pretty sweet I hafta say. Though, I need to familiarize myself with this new white furniture of mine.

Update. Just learnt that HL2 runs perfectly fine with Macbook, through bootcamp. At least when it has 2gigs of RAM.

So, I assume HaJ would work perfeclty fine aswell. Hmm, I'd better start seriously looking for more RAM and the enxternal HD I've been longing for. ;)

Congrats on your new macbook, how much would one have to pay for such high technology? :)

War Pig
8th February 2007, 12:46 PM
Actually, I got it in July :D But thanks anway. Took me a while to figure out whether or not HL2/mods would run on Macbook..

Anyhoot. I payed roughly 1070€ for it, all together. But that was with a student discount. I assume they're cheaper now. And it was the basic model. Even the basic model needs alot more RAM, 512 just doesn't cut it..

spine
8th February 2007, 05:16 PM
Geez, thats not cheap and you even have to by more ram...
Not shure I get this, for that amount you could get I realy good PC.

Sell it to me please ;)

War Pig
8th February 2007, 07:02 PM
I've got to say, this is really worth the money. Can't get a laptop PC this small and with these specs for 1000euros. And haven't had any problems with the OS either. I'm not going back to PC world anymore! :D I've managed to convert my sister and a friend of mine aswell to come to the light side ;)

I've seen those bulky PC laptops at the uni. And more than just seen them, I've heard them. It's like a jet fighter going off when those fans start to yell :/ Scary. Ah, I rather enjoy the sounds of silence with my macbook ;) Then agian, I could sell this to you. Let's say..umm, for 1400e? ;)

Hehe thats sound to good to be true... :D
(I forgott it is a lap top)

Well if i win the lottery I know what to get!

War Pig
9th February 2007, 08:32 AM
Well... it does sound a bit too good to be true. Truth to be told, even my mac has crashed on me a couple of times. Nohthing major and usually it has been due to stressing the comp too much. But those instances have been few and far apart, and even then it has recovered data and hasn't been that big of a mess.. (unlike my old PCs :/ )

Hugo.B
9th February 2007, 05:31 PM
Truth to be told, even my mac has crashed on me a couple of times. What! The OS that doesn't crash?
Tell me, what does it look like?
BSOD?
Or does it have a more dignified "maccish" way of crashing?

H.B.

War Pig
11th February 2007, 06:56 PM
It does have a more 'maccish' style of crashing. Just.. stops responding. Though, it's extremely rare and I think it has more to do with some apps I'm using, and generally overloading the machine. It might even be that it's simply doing stuff and I haven't waited long enough..

But even when a mac crashes, it doesn't lower itself to PC level - the level of mere mortals :D

Ginger Lord
11th February 2007, 07:14 PM
My iMac crashed last night, well more precisely Director crashed it, which crashed Finder. Force Quit solved that except I lost the top bar so couldnt shut down or do anything lol.

Hugo.B
12th February 2007, 07:07 PM
...so couldn't shut down or do anything...Can you turn it off like an ordinary PC by holding down the power button for 5 seconds?

I once read on some website that interviewed the mac programmer responsible for the software power on/off switch that he believed that you should just be able to press the power button to turn it off because it was better logic.

H.B.

Ginger Lord
12th February 2007, 07:08 PM
One touch of the power button makes it go into standby, holding it down for 5s turns it off.

I think if I was to get a laptop/notebook I'd get a Mac. I've always wanted one, but for a desktop I prefer Windows.

War Pig
16th February 2007, 09:41 PM
I head that HL2, and hence presumably also HaJ, work perfectly without Winblows throughCrossover. Hurrah!

Gotta try that asap!

I would love to play Ham and Jam but i would need to be a tester ;) wink wink nudge nudge. :D
