Yeah i dont really see a point of mapping for haj unless you have the resources (textures/models) for doing so. An art section might be cool tho :P

lol, the trenches had a mapping forum out LONG before it was released it allowed people to show off thier third party work and get it critisized. just because the game isnt out(and thus they dont know the entities they need) doesnt mean they cannot create a playing field for it. mapping has realy picked up on that mod with a release but third party mappers were there before the release waiting for final entities so they oculd release thier work. however they did do what they could. but if you want to be super critical about it, well tahts your choice.
added: speaking of making maps here is something that i have been working on for a while as a side project.... i know that the screenies are taken in dod but thats because im using dod props as placeholders. the map is called hells city and thats for a reason.... the layout is about 20% done...

anyway, keep in mind that 90% of the mods out there have a mapping part of the forum. even when they havent released yet. its just part of the forums on a mod or a game... its kinda how it works...

i can just feel the bad attitude in the air... seriously, im not going to make this a big arguement because its... imature... to make a big arguement about something this small. however, its also something to look at yourselves that i got such a negitive reaction to a suggestion that realy isnt that hard to do. maybe 15 minutes of work. i merely suggested so the situation is in place for when you do have a large comunity and yada yada yada....
ill just keep in mind that you guys like to do everything a certian way and suggestions for that method arent accepted. just to clear some things up, it is not you saying a "no" to my suggestion is what has gotten me frustrated right now its just the attitude in wich it was said.

Hey ceacar,
chill man, it will happen.
(I am not the chosen spokes person on this team,
I am just a contributor, but will try and answere this
for you, so this does not turn into a beast.)
Just right now it's not the best thing for us (I think).
We don't need all the stuff thats following a map section like that.
You know questions about how will that work and in wich way
is it best that I do this? My Hammer does not work wtf whats up?
Help me Im lost where is... this n that? Does the props
function with.....bla bla bla etc...
You might not think it, but it distracts the team from creating this game.
And we need everyones attention on the work not answereing post
about stuff we can't really answere yet anyways...
Like I do right now, instead of skinning the prop I'm working on, I'm
answering this post because you demand a propper response.
Not just accepting that this is something that will come along when
time is right for us. I only have a few hours a day that I can use
on the work I do for this game, so this is a direct loss off
available work time for me.
And I suspect that this is the case for a lot of the team,
so If we can wait with a mapping section and its demands I think
it would benefit us.
(Again this is my guess why a mapping section might not be what we
need right now, not the "official" answere.
But it might be good enough for you.)
But thank you for your interrest in the Mapping aspects of this game/forum,
hope to see you posting and contributing to that when time comes.
Cheers mate! :)
Right, back to work.....

well, i don't understand why there should be a mapping forum when if you are good enough to can map directly for the team. There really can't be any support for budding mappers since the game isn't out.

Its time for the offical answer, from a mapper.
There won't be a mapping forum, at least not until close to the first release. You really can't map for HaJ without the game, sure you can block it out in DoD but it will be wrong. HaJ plays at a completely different speed to DoD so the timings will be wrong. It's like all those people making conc maps for Fortress Forever when they have no idea how the conc's will work. They are going to end up redoing there whole maps.
We all know there will be hordes of people going "lol, i like HaJ how do I map?!" and they are a serious pain. I've been a member of 69th Vlatitude since 2001 and back in its hayday before HL2 I was one of the more active "helpers" in the editing forum and the amount of times people asked the same question when there was a post below them with the answer was annoying as hell.
I don't want to go back there again. The amount of time it would take to oversee it and answer the repeated questions isn't justifiable at the moment.
Maybe when we are closer to the mod release and we have more time to make it worthwhile.
End of story.
