The raids on the Lofoten Islands in 1941, and basically all commando / combined arms raids along the Norwegian coast.
Looks like great mapping material to me. Also because the commando troops where made up out of all kinds of Nationalities. Norwegian, Dutch, Belgian, French, British etc etc

pfft..
Crazy mindless Dutch..
Actually, you've all read the "High Voltage" comics?
I think they used to have these commando operations every now and then, some of them in Norway etc.
In sum, might be nice, but perhaps after the "bigger" events are in-game?

the taking of Ouistreham's Casino where was set a coastal battery bunker near the old harbor after battleing your way in the streets that you can see in the Longuest Day :)
playing the "Commando Kiefer" of the Free French Forces.
It would make a nice map :]
Also the assault of Carpiquet's airfield near Caen where were entrenched and surrounded young die-hard elements of the Hitlerjugend that canadians had to force out with flamethrowers...
HaJ_Blut&Ehre sounds badass ;p

haha I was in a realism unit in DoD, the 12th SS. Blut und Ehre (Blood and Honor).
I would love to see commando maps, even with the Free French Forces would be pretty cool.

I vote for more desert maps! The desert war interests me more than anything else, especially pre El Alamein. Is there any plans to include italians becasue a few maps based on the first desert campaign in late 1940/early 41 before rommel showed up would great and I dare say never been done before.

I've taken a great interest in the El Alamein battle in the past, it may be a map I would consider working on for a future version of HaJ. Right now, I'm going to stick to the project at hand :)

no sarcasm :p
you hear stories about them being cowards ?
well there were desert battles with italian sappers rushing tanks to place sticky bombs.
Im not really a supporter of fascism but the italian fought hard too in some battle they had their own weapons.
There are desert maps in Libya where italians were meant to fight so I dont see any problem with seeing an italian team in the mod :p

Thank Herr Hitler and his pet Il Duce.
El Alamein would be pretty fun, Prior to El Alamein would be something that the WWII Gaming Community has rarely seen, or probebly even heard of unless they are advent history lovers like a couple of us in here. Even I have trouble keeping up with the timeline in No. Africa circa the early 40s.

You created a thread about little know battles and I added to it by suggesting my own. :D
If what you say is tru joker then having early war maps would not only be orginal but educational too. It would help demonstrate exactly what the British & Commonwealth forces had to do before Russia and the US joined in.
Which reminds me of the German battle ship that the Norwegians were able to sink in one of fjord..
What ship was that? You mean during the invasion or sunk by the resistance?
War Pig

I think it was sunk by the resistance during the invasion. Or actually, I think the Norwegian armed forces might have done it in the beginning of the invasion..?
edit: http://www.abc.se/~pa/uwa/wreck-no.htm
There seems to at least the Tirpiz, bombed by RAF in -44?
and
SS Romanby 4,487grt. Sunk by an explosion between 22/23rd April 1940. <--though I think that was a merchant ship?

There's some info about the campaigns in Norway as well.

Heps. Found a Discovery documentary titled "Forgotten Battles". Besides that one of the episodes features the Finnish-Russo Winter War, one part features for e.g. the Norwegian campaigns.
Seems fairly interesting. I've gotta take a better look when I have the time.
Then again, the Discovery had put 'Finland' where it was supposed to be 'Denmark'. A rather heavy mistake if you ask me, especially when you're making a documentary about the battles in the north.

I guess you must be talking about the cruiser Blucher that was sunk during the invasion. The only battleship sunk in Norway was the Tirpitz by RAF Lancasters, afterall the germans only had 2.
Interesting site that shipwreck one. Devs if you make a Lofoten islands map do we get to sink the ships- the D/S Mira & Hamburg as it says on that site? :D
Besides that one of the episodes features the Finnish-Russo Winter War
Now that really is a forgotten battle that no one knows about, so much so that the only game i've seen it in is IL-2 forgotten battles. I'd love to play a game/mod based on that, it abit outside H&Js scope though.

Dammit, haven't seen that! Gotta look into it. A bit ot., but Close Combat series have nice mods about that war.
If you get the chance, take a look at the Discovery program. Historically perhaps a tad inaccurate here and there, but gives an overall picture what happened in 105 days. :P

Yes the ship sunk in Norway by the Forces was the Blücher,
this from War Pigs link, I dont know how accurate this is though:
Blücher. German battleship sunk by Norwegian coastal defence in April
1940 in the Oslo fjord. Two shells from the 19th century guns Moses and
Aron damaged the ship's steering. Then she was sunk by torpedoes.
The sinking gave the Norwegian government precious time to prepare
before the invasion. The 210 m long ship carried 1600 crewmen and
800 soldiers. The majority survived.
This is more detailed though:
It was sunk by to canons placed on the excact waterline, inside a cave-like
cliff, on an tiny island fortress called 'Oscarsborg' in the middle of the
fjord leading into Oslo (the capitol). They where placed with only a
small opening for the barrels to stick out, only someone who knew
they where there would see them.
The fort had 3 canons (I told you it was tiny) but only people enough
to use 2 of them. The cannons where 55 years old at the time and
the torpedos used had already been test fired about 200 times without
charges off course during practise.
No need to say, the forttress was realy bad equiped for battle.
9. April 0400 hours the first ship in the row Blücher was visable.
0421 hours the first shot from Oscarsborg fortress was fired and hit
the comandobridge (obviously not with a torpedo) from a distance of
1400-1800 m, it was then hit several times again and a fire started in
the airplanefuel and amo cargo, explosions started.
Blücher returned fire with 20 canons but never hit the forttress.
And from what I've heard from the people in the closest town 'Drobak'
(I live a 15min drive away and have family there) Blücher also
emptyed theire canons on the town probably because they did not
no from where the shots came.
(Remember it was in April wich at that hour is almost pitch black,
and damn cold aswell.)
0622 hours Blücher turned on it's side and sunk, about 1000 germans died.
And even though the town was on fire the locals picked up the soldiers
from the shore lines and brought them in to their houses in front of
the fireplace (if the house was not already in flames lol) to help them.
Only to see them get collected later to continue theire raid...
sry that was to much info!
But hopefully interresting to some geeks. :D

A quick search gave me this.
And it seems I was wrong saying it was pitch black though...sry
(At least not when it actually sank)
