Stupid avatar question

For some reason in my profile whenever I try to add an avatar there is no option for me to do so. There is only a "Show Gallery" option with no avatars in it. Do I need a cetain number of posts before I get an avatar or something like that?

Sorry for the stupid question but I am curious.
