First of all, Hello I am new to the forums. :)

There was one thing I noticed while viewing screenshots/videos of HAJ, and this was the position of the left hand while using the Sten SMG.

This is the HAJ current position of the left hand on the Sten.

If you were actually holding the Sten in this way wouldn't you burn your hand from the heat of the barrel?

The best way to hold the Sten would be to probably hold it this way, which I think was the way it was intended to be held.

In my opinion the left hand should be positioned on the Magazine, it also gives easy access for reloading. Just an idea and thought.

Thank you for reading. :D

The way we have it is the correct way to hold it, as taught by the Army. Holding it by the magazine will cause it to jam. The part you are holding is not the barrel, but a protective shield around it.

You can also hold it by the main body of the gun behind the ejection port.

Oh sorry, I did not know that.

I always thought that holding that area of the weapon would damage your hand. If it is taught that way it must be correct. Thank you for clearing that up.

As GL stated, the way the sten is held in Ham and Jam is the correct way taught by the army at the time. The Sten was a cheap weapon and didn't have a very tight magazine fit so there was a chance that holding it by the magazine would pull it out of alignment and cause a misfeed into the chamber and jam the weapon.

The Indian army actually welded additional brass wire into the lips of their magazines to tighten the fit of their magazine but always the correct was was to hold the shroud.

That part of the weapon is not actually touching the barrel and has a sizeable air gap so it doesn't get that hot.

The STG44 wasn't suppose to be held by the magazine either but alot of silly germans did it. Hope you don't model the wrong position for that either :)

You can also hold it by the magazine well, if you really want to grab it on the side for some neurotic reason.
