Map media update & general chit-chat

Time for another update, we haven’t had a big team playtest since the last media update (shocking I know!) but we have one on the horizon and we’re working our socks off to get all the new stuff ready for it….

So what have we done since the last update? Well it’s safe to say we’ve probably been on 75% capacity for that time due to the team having their summer holidays. In the last month and a bit I’ve gone on holiday and so has mXed, TheSurgeon, Spine, Jaboo224, Trp. Dutch, Jed. The rest of the team has also been very busy with real-life

That doesn’t mean we’ve done nothing though! We’ve completely revised our v_model rig and the animators are starting to animate all the weapons on it. The only two weapon models we don’t have modelled are the MP40 and German Entrenching Tool, aka the Shovel! Those should be coming along soon however. Once the weapons are animated, they will be optimised and have unnecessary detail removed, UV mapped correctly and then skinned. It’s a bit different to how other mod teams do it, they usually skin then animate but we’re trying something different and hopefully it will pay off, we’ll have to wait and see.

Code wise we’ve fixed a few bugs, such as Recoil being affected by latency. Man that was horrible, your recoil got worse depending on your ping! It was a nasty bug thats taken a lot of tinkering to remove and get right. b0b’s still finishing up his climbing and deploy code and Pierog is chest deep in C++ creating our new gameplay system, its a biggie!

That leaves mapping as the last big chunk to talk about, its coming on nicely. Pegasus is now getting somewhere and its pretty much bang on how it was in 1944. Jed has amassed a huge stack of intel, hopefully he’ll get to write a news post about it when he gets back off Holiday. It’s truely an amazing amount of effort on his part and I’ll go as far to say as I don’t think anyones seen this faithful recreation of Pegasus Bridge. I’ve put some new images up on the media page showing off some stuff, not much to see as it is dark and theres some content I need to finalise in it before showing more. One thing you can’ t see in the pictures is the amazing ambience Jed has dug up. Its pretty nifty with distant Dakota’s flying over, flak, rumbling, the whole package really adds to the excitement factor

Radar has had a massive change since you last saw it, the British spawn area has been completely redone by KominAaa to be more realistic. The trenches are now dug in amongst the hedges and looks pretty ace. The Barn has been converted into a Cider Farm and every bit of space in the map has turned into Orchards. The Flakvierling emplacements have been added, one freshly completed the other still being built, like the new Radar emplacement. KominAaa did me a sketch for how he thought it should be and it looked good, so I made it. It’s turned out pretty close to the sketch which I’ve uploaded too.

Last I’ll just talk about general stuff thats gone on since the last big update, the Forums have changed to vBulletin from phpBB. Everyone that previously signed up should have got an e-mail about it reminding you to get a new password (some passwords couldnt be converted over). Faceman bought us the licence for that for which we are grateful for, if you see him in the forums thank him. We’re having a cleanout on the team and cleaning the people that havn’t actually done anything out. People were saying they would do stuff and then just vanished, we’re a laidback team but we have standards. Thats about it really, until next time…
